Things Not to do at Camp

After much debate with myself I finally decided to start a series about camp and all the things you should never do at camp. In particular all the things I will most likely never do at camp{again or more than one more time}. I have had  the privilege to dean camp at Alabama Christian Service Camp for the last two years. It’s amazing what you learn about what you shouldn’t do at camp. some of the future posts from this series will include video, some may include pictures, but all will include some kind of element where a good idea just turned out to be… well… just not that good of an idea. Take this video for example  if it hadn’t been for my good friend and co-dean Warnick,{who just happened to hanging out at the bottom of the pool}...

Today, and over the weekend I have many things to do. This coming Thursday two things will be happening that I know God is going to amazingly show Himself like only only He can. The first thing is that the 20th-the 23rd of November is the Youth Specialties conference. Yeah it’s pretty amazing to go to YS. The second thing is that I will be driving my motorcycle to Atlanta to “deliver” it to my best friend. If you are wandering what this is all about, I will refer you to the posts about searching, and that will bring you up to speed. So as I said, Thursday I will ride my motorcycle to Atlanta GA. and hand over the keys. Then I will go in and register for Youth Specialties and meet up with the rest of my team from H.CC. and that is going to be an...

I am Still Running…

OKAY, so I have been running for about 6 weeks now and I have “upped” my running alot. At first I was on a 20 minute workout program that burned a certain amount of calories, and the strenuousness of the work out was determined by my weight. In the beginning I was setting my weight at 290 lbs. Because that is what I weigh. but after the first week, it didn’t seem to be pushing enough. I thought well I will just lower my weight input, that will “up” my run. Boy did it… I lowered my weight on the treadmill to 260. {I think my treadmill has a mind of it’s own and very warped sense of humor} Mr. Tready was like “260 Riiiiiight, I’ll show you 260″ let’s just say that morning i thought i would die, I even...

Are You Being a Good Steward?

A JOURNEY WITH JESUS STEWARDSHIP… SERVING LIKE JESUS disclaimer…” even though  I have written this in all caps, I am not yelling at any one. This is how I write out my sermon notes because when you get to be my age I can see them better in all caps. and remember I am hyper-caffeinated and basically, I live my life in ALL CAPS!” p.r. enjoy “DO YOU HAVE AN INNER YEARNING TO LIVE A FREE, UNTAMED, BOLD ADVENTUROUS LIFE…? ONE THAT IS EXCITING, FULFILLING, AND FUN? DO YOU RESIST BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO, HOW TO DO IT AND HOW TO THINK? DO YOU RESENT BEING DEFINED BY WHAT YOU DO?”{David Foster,Renegades Guide to God} IF WE ARE HONEST MOST OF US WOULD ANSWER YES TO THOSE QUESTIONS. YOU MAY BE WONDERING WHY IS PHATROK  ASKING THOSE...

La-La-La-La I Can’t hear you Jesus

Recently I wrote a sermon for our Sunday evening youth group called F.U.S.I.O.N.  Yes each letter stands for something that we are focusing on for the year. The F stands for Faithful Follower. I was writing the sermon about Stephen and how he was a faithful follower of Jesus. As I was reading about Stephen in Acts chapter 6 and 7, I realized that we are {more than we would like to admit} a lot like the members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen. Acts6:9 When I read over the following verses … 54When they heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56“Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the...
